French editions

Ellis in French.

The nine books in French: first edition, translator, year, and the first paperback.

Ellis has been published in French since 1986, by Christian Bourgois, then Salvy, then Robert Laffont. Four translators have carried the work: Brice Matthieussent for the first two novels, Alain Defossé for American Psycho, Bernard Willerval for Zombies, and Pierre Guglielmina for everything from Glamorama onward. A translation is a protected work in its own right, so they are named first.

Every line on this page was checked on 8 September 2026 against the Bibliothèque nationale de France general catalogue, through its public SRU interface: seventy-one records, fifty-one of them in French. Book-club printings (France Loisirs, Le Grand livre du mois) are left out, being reissues rather than first editions. The works of Bret Easton Ellis and their French translations are under copyright; this page is a bibliographic reference and reproduces no jacket.
